It sounds awful to say, but this song was probably inspired by an argument. We didn't fight often while I was away, but when we did, it was absolutely devastating. There was no means to reconcile. I was left in my lonely room with a lot to contemplate in the time I would've normally spent on the phone... knowing I'd have to wait 24 hours and go through an awful day of work before I could discuss it. Anyhow I'm sure she questioned the nature of our relationship and left me to think about it. I'd had several long conversations with coworkers about marriage, and had come to the realization that the only thing holding me back was that I didn't feel I had the financial means to have a wedding. When I discussed it with her I found that she would be as happy as I would with a humble ceremony. Somewhere in all of this I started writing the song which I would play on the car stereo when I asked her to marry me.
